LIGHT UP YOUR LIFE - Chandelier Installation

A chandelier was created including shapes created and painted by the 120 children, aged 12-14 in time for the official opening of Aureus School, Didcot as well as bespoke mirror and sun pieces. Inspired by the history of light in Didcot and the magical Iron Age Didcot Mirror, workshops were run with archaeologist Sue Wright from Oxfordshire Museum Services. Each child was invited to explore the emotional effects of colour and form and to respond creatively by making a piece for the chandelier about what excites or inspires them most in their life.
Mirror discs were incorporated into the chandelier to remind, reflect the work, illuminate and inspire each child in the school. They give a sense of place and belonging by connecting to the meaning of the Iron Age mirror.
The chandelier also aims to support the wonderful Aureus school's work to nurture hearts and minds in the development of the whole child.
